On January 20, 2025 an executive order was issued by the US government to pause funding on any new obligations and disbursements with a 90-day review of all US foreign assistance. Four days later a stop work order was issued on all existing foreign assistance awards. These decisions rapidly cascaded into a loss of billions in foreign aid, millions of impacted lives, and thousands of lost jobs destabilizing the global health and humanitarian aid sector. Some commentators and global health organizations speculate that even if the US government thaws these freezes that funding will not return to former levels. In response to this, the world of private philanthropy has been called upon to respond during this time of profound need.
2024 Annual Letter
Happy New Year to all our valued partners and friends!
We at the Rauch Family Foundation are filled with gratitude to be working in partnership with over 30 organizations who are improving health outcomes in vulnerable populations. We truly appreciate the compassionate and dedicated individuals who make up our grantees. The work they do is humbling.
Early in 2024, our board adopted a health-focused mission statement, narrowing our philanthropic focus and strengthening our ability to approach grantmaking strategically.
A Health-Focused Mission: The Rauch Family Foundation
To our valued partners and friends,
In 2019, the Rauch Family Foundation adopted a set of focus areas to help define our grant-making and provide a framework for decision-making rooted in the desire to fund cost-effective, evidence-based, and transformational projects, programs, and organizations.
In 2022, we undertook a review of these focus areas to focus our learning, increase the impact of our community investments, and develop areas of expertise unified under an approved strategic mission.
In 2024, we approved and adopted a mission statement that we hope will serve as our philanthropic compass and our guide, holding us on a steady course of accountability, in service of supporting some of the world’s most underserved and underrepresented communities.
2023 Annual Letter
Happy New Year to all our valued partners and friends!
2023 was a year of progress for the Rauch Family Foundation in our quest to make a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable people. We continued to ask ourselves: what are the greatest needs both at home and far away? What strategies are effective in addressing those needs? What is the role of private philanthropy in funding effective strategies?
What We've Learned So Far
The Rauch Family Foundation is a learning organization. As we grow we are committed to sharing what we’ve learned with the public and those in the field of philanthropy. We continue to explore best practices in programmatic research and evaluation and as we do, we will share the results of our learning here.
